From his eyes

The glistening rays of warmth 

playing on his golden coat

layers of flawless silk 

eyes of playful but fierce intent

he scouts for the nearby prey

only to jump and pursue some play

ears in a state of alert 

perked for the slightest movement

or a critter galloping between the bushes

wagging and panting, a small alter

exposing his pearly teeth

as the corners of his eyes crinkle. 

His favourite time of the year

to bask in the medium of nature

In the beginnings of a thick forest,

a green roof lit by a tangle of golden reflections

the palms talk

a castanet sound

So many sweets

The color of deep cream

Pink granite, Blue flowers

It's a good island

a flurry of wind

we ought to have a meeting

with weary feet on a trunk

a conch, touched with fading pink

Then darkness dropped

the patter of hooves

seductive, maddening

a shadow under the darkness

the sun had gone, a light turned off

tormented by silence

the wail rose, remote and unearthly

breath after breath

Under the remote stars

suffered untold horrors

overcome with astonishment

at his reflection

You should have seen the blood

Between the patches of red and white

an angry eye, and painted faces

maybe it isn't a good island after all.

"Do Seek Their Meat from God"

In the short story "Do Seek Their Meat from God" by Roberts, there is a prominent allusion to the bible. The title itself in context of the story represents how the desire to find food for the baby panthers overpowered the panthers thoughts of earning the prey. The actual verse itself is used to teach a lesson on how desire is not enough to receive what one asks for; Instead, one must realize that everything must be earned from god. In this case, the panthers were too focused on the crying wails coming from the little boy to even consider the man, the obstacle to overcome. The way that the panthers could've earned the little boy as their prey would be to defeat and kill the man that came to protect the boy. In contrast, the way that the man earned what he desired was by defeating the panthers in a conflict to save the boy. Overall, the title of this short story is used to represent pure desire and true achievement in which achievement is never reached with only pure desire but rather through hard work and obstacles.

Living like a bumble bee

Working in the sun,

Tired and breathless.

Working in the office,

Straining and tedious.

Take a moment from your day,

Think of all you have accomplished.

The mere effort used to wake up,

Simply being alive.

Create a space in your mind,

For some self-worth.

With zeal and vitality,

Consume the honor of being alive.

With such empowerment of the unfavorable,

We neglect the favorable.

Our lives so bitter in regret,

When what matters most is the progress.

One is not built to mold as a Kevlar vest,

Instead as a recoverable, converting tree.

Constantly transforming, changing, restoring,

Regaining, repairing, and caring.

Just take a moment out of your day,

Living as a busy bumble bee.

Stop for a moment and think,

Of the endless flowers to land upon.

Star-crossed Lovers

Oh Romeo and Juliet,
how I feel for thee.
Finding true love,
but not so much free.
With the feud of your families,
leaves me with no choice.
Oh Juliet in her deathbed she lay,
simply for Romeo; to hear his voice.

with all of my heart, I wish her good luck.

Results of being sick

Today I was really sick and completely lost my voice. I wasn't able to go to school which resulted in me staying home doing nothing but watching a Korean drama called 'Heirs'. It was quite nice actually but I felt stressed from being not productive. Overall the experience of relaxation was worth the time.

I have gotten up to episode 13 in one day, I know, terrible and unproductive. ""The Heirs" depicts the friendships, rivalries and love lives of young, rich heirs led by Kim Tan (Lee Min-Ho) and a girl named Cha Eun-Sang (Park Shin-Hye). Unlike the others, Cha Eun-Sang is considered ordinary and comes from a poor background." That was the description provided by AsianWiki about the general plot of this drama. So far I have enjoyed it because I really enjoyed a similar Korean dram called 'Boys over Flowers' with many of the same actors and actresses as characters. 

Journal entry from Jem's point of view

               Hello, My name is Jem and I am the first son of Atticus Fitch and the older brother of Scout or her real name, Jean Louise. I was born after a year into my mother and fathers marriage. Four years after I was born Scout was born. Two years after she was born our mother passed away due to an unexpected heart attack that runs in her family. Us Southerners are from Maycomb, Alabama. Scout and I live with Atticus and we often adventure as a duo. Though I miss my mother dearly, we are living quite a comfortable life with Atticus. 

 

               Although Atticus is from Finch's Landing, Scout and I are from Maycomb. Maycomb is a very small town inside Alabama where life can be limiting. Nothing is ever in a rush because there is no where to be, nothing to do and nothing to see. Houses and structures are very drowsy and old. Take the Radleys house for example. Their house has low, once white with a deep front porch and green shutters but time has passed and now darkened to a gray with rain-stained shingles. Their picket fence had hardly anything left of it. Maycomb had many rainy days that shadowed the sun.

               Maycomb was full of agriculture. Many civilians’ jobs were affected by the crash as agriculture came to an all-time low. Mr. Cunningham was one of those workers. Scout is in Walter Cunningham's grade one class. She was telling me about how Walter did not bring lunch the other day and she had to tell Ms. Caroline about the Cunningham and their inability to afford these luxuries. Atticus had helped Mr. Cunningham as a lawyer but Mr. Cunninghams was not able to pay Atticus back, in currency at least. Throughout the following year we received various gifts from the Cunninghams such as a crokersack full of turnip greens, holly, smilax, and hickory nuts. It was the only way they were able to pay anyone back, this was the case for many farmers.

Frustration in tough situations

Lately my dad switched from an iPhone 4 to an iPhone 5s, he gave me his iPhone 4 for me to transfer all his information from one cell phone to another. His home button is broken and so it just made it so much harder to deal with. I started to realize a little pattern I go through when dealing with frustration specifically in situations with a product. I go online and search all possible methods of resolving the issue, ask around to see if anyone is able to help, then try but if I lose interest there is no turning back. I plan to change that in the year of 2014 to deal with many more things even when my genuine interest has vanished.

Had this day not been expected?

In this world I am neglected,
Am I the only one who had suspected,
